PFT for the 2 year mark

It’s hard to believe that on 9/27, we will hit the 2 year mark of his VBT surgery. It obviously was life changing for him because even Brett said last month “Mom my two year spineaversary is coming up”.

Jeff took him for his PFT today and… though keep in mind the pulmonoligst still needs to review his results, the preliminary results from the tech look A-MAZE-ING already.

For those unfamiliar, a PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) is the true/real data that proves to insurance companies “hey this procedure is new, but it works… here’s the data to prove it”.

You can go back to the post but I’ll just recap… his PFT test on 8/20/2022 (before surgery) was so poor that the tech made him do two rounds of breathing, one without albuterol and one with. His lung capacity had responded so well with the albuterol treatment that the tech said “he may be an asthmatic kid”.  Are you kidding me?  A smashed lung asthma and the kid still works out like he does?

Anyway, again, all from the technician – she did not see the need today to do an albuterol treatment. His lung capacity was at an 87 (they desire to get an 82).  Oh, and to top it all off, that same # that is now an 87, was a low 60 before surgery.

I’m no doctor and we’ll go for the actual follow-up with Dr. Dan next week, but if I am doing simple math, that means his lung capacity increased by 27% because of VBT!  BOOM!  I also can’t wait to see how straight he is now next week when we go.  To be continued….
